I make paintings that explore themes of intimacy and the failure of intimacy through the autobiographical lens of my relationships, my community, and an American culture at large. Recently, I’ve been making paintings inspired by my rural hometown that unflinchingly present the persistent drinking culture as well as the suggestion of a transient figure. A figure who comes and goes from a town, like myself and so many others I’ve known throughout the years. I’m influenced by artists such as Nicole Eisenman, Alice Neel, and Henry Taylor.
